This year marks the 30th anniversary of the United States enacting the "Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell" policy that allowed gay people to serve in the military. In December ofthe policy was issued under a Department of Defense directive and signed into law by President Bill Clinton. I wrote this piece of lightly fictionalized memoir a couple of years ago — part of series about my quest for masculinity as a young gay man in the military.
