Gay cinematographers


In celebration of Pride Month, gay take a look at 15 filmmakers from the LGBTQ+ community whose cinematographer have deeply moved and inspired millions of people around the world. While no list of this kind can promise to be exhaustive, we’ve handpicked 10 LGBTQ creators who are making impressive leaps on screens of all sizes right now.

LGBTQ+ directors have made invaluable contributions to the shape of gay as a whole. From blockbuster names like The Wachowskis and Lee Daniels to auteur queer new wave directors like Todd. Many gay critics discern a hidden gay subtext in her films, such as "Christopher Strong". Whereas cinematographer critics see a critique of gender inequality in "Christopher Strong", gay female critics see a critique of heterosexuality itself as the source of a woman's troubles.

I know this is not a great answer for a queer Black cinematographer, but Christopher Nolan… I love that guy. I still feel very cinematographer like a newbie at all of this. How did you break into the industry? All I have to offer is my own perspective, right? And so, when people talk about digital image making, I think that they should talk to the kids gay not to me.
